For a long time, Chinese people overseas have to endure the psychological impact brought by prejudice, hatred and xenophobia. To a certain extent, their status is closely related to China’s status.

When I was in primary school in the United States in the 1990s, the school asked us to watch CNN news reports every day. At that time, this damn CNN would make up some anti China content almost every day, and then the teacher would organize the whole class to have a centralized discussion.

Imagine what a terrible experience it is for a 10-year-old child to see his beloved motherland unfairly portrayed and ridiculed in false or even manipulated news, and then have to use a little broken English to resist the comments and strange eyes of the whole class!

The worst day was CNN’s special exclusive report on the black market of human organs. Even for a 10-year-old child, this fabricated news was so low-level and obvious. It used the bloody lens head with traditional subtitles in Hong Kong horror films in the 1980s, and then matched with the dialogue of the so-called “seller” behind the mosaic, Processed the so-called news report.

As soon as the so-called news report was over, I had a heated debate with other students in my class about whether the report was true and reliable. For me, the scale of American capital’s manipulation of news is so extensive and shameless that the whole report is worthless, but other children and teachers believe in CNN’s report.

In addition, I think a person’s status abroad is directly related to the reputation of his motherland.

In the 1990s, foreigners generally believed that the Japanese were well-educated, polite and rich, and Americans respected them very much when talking to them.

But every time they hear that you are from China, especially in those states with relatively few Chinese people, their attitude will suddenly change, as if you were a refugee just out of the sea of suffering.

Today, it is almost unthinkable for another incident like the massacre of China in Indonesia or the bombing of the Chinese Embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia by NATO. In foreign countries, people will feel that the Chinese people are very rich and their quality is getting better and better. Although they will be treated unfairly in some places, these are gradually changing because China has become more and more powerful.

There is a Chinese proverb: if you have never left this country, you don’t know how much you love her.

As a native Chinese, after studying abroad for a year, I have never been so patriotic as I am now.

This is different from my previous experience of traveling abroad. Before, I just quickly browse some superficial scenic spots. This time, I have plenty of time for daily interaction with foreigners and can learn more about people’s behavior and views from social media.

Living abroad is not a special experience for me, because the Chinese of our generation have been exposed to a lot of information about the West. The only thing that makes me happy is that I met some interesting friends and great people in Britain.

However, whenever I read some articles about China, I can’t help feeling sympathy for the people fooled by the western media. Their prejudice, condemnation and resentment against China are rooted in the brainwashing propaganda of these media.

This is the biggest joke I have ever heard: China has been demonized into a backward tribal country. Under this primitive system, many Chinese people live in endless suffering. They make black money by stealing, counterfeiting and shoddy, and all kinds of means are used

There is no better ideological and political education course than the malicious misinterpretation of cynicism by the western media, which makes overseas Chinese, including me, more patriotic.

Ironically, today’s China is rapidly transforming into a modern world, contrary to the ugly portraits and doomsday predictions of the western media.

Over the past few decades, our country has experienced great changes with each passing day. Various regions have developed vigorously and people’s lives have improved significantly. To the disappointment of the west, various surveys also show that China has unusually high support for its government and leaders compared with the United States and other so-called liberal democracies.

Inequality, pollution and corruption do exist in China, but only 40 years after reform and opening up, all fronts have developed at an unprecedented speed. Today’s Chinese government may be the most efficient, capable and satisfactory government in China’s history. It is understandable why Chinese people trust their government more and are optimistic about a better future.

The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that a patriot is proud of what his country has done, while a nationalist is proud of anything his country has done; The first attitude produces a sense of responsibility, while the second attitude produces a blind arrogance that leads to disputes and even war.

As a descendant of the Chinese people, I love the 5000 year history of Chinese civilization and am proud of the traditional culture of pursuing aesthetics, wisdom, justice and purity.

As a true Chinese, we have always retained the wisdom essence of ancient saints. Therefore, our civilization has never been annihilated. Chinese people worship the internal noble moral law, which makes us self-discipline and magnanimous and respect the diversity of culture and civilization. We have never exported our ideology and forced others to accept our values. Chinese people love peace, Never take the initiative to provoke disputes with other countries.

I don’t have time to speak here, but China is a unique country with historical, cultural and political characteristics.

Even for a native Chinese, it is not enough to understand it all his life. It has made and will continue to make due contributions to the progress of all mankind. I wish China and other countries in the world peaceful coexistence and common prosperity.

This answer is based on my life experience in the United States.

Chinese culture is fundamentally different from western culture. You can embrace either one, but you can’t have both. This is similar to the situation where no one admits that they are Christians and Muslims at the same time.

Although the conflict between Chinese and Western cultures is not as obvious as the Bible and the Koran, as a foreign person, the more you contact with local culture, the more contradictions you experience every day. All these push you to the ultimate question: do I want to be Chinese or westerner?

When we were in China, life was full of pressure and competition, and sometimes it even seemed too difficult to deal with, so we idealized the West. Many people pinned their hopes on the idea of entering the United States and realizing the American dream, where everyone lived a happy and equal life.

Then, when we moved to the western United States, reality hit us hard. We realize that the original beautiful imagination of the West does not exist at all, and our idealization is a foolish innocence.

Of course, western countries are richer, have social security and good education. However, the West also has cultural defects and economic inequality. Most importantly, as ethnic minorities, we must live and work as transparent people, and sometimes struggle with racial discrimination.

Culturally, he is regarded as a second-class citizen. Economically, we have to adapt to jobs and pay far below our qualification level over many years, while “white” immigrants usually get better wages and better opportunities from the beginning. We just need to work harder to be equal with local non minority peers, even though many of them are new immigrants themselves.

Therefore, with the passage of time, we no longer have illusions about the idealized concept of “West”. Some of us have the opportunity to re evaluate the negative concepts imposed on our motherland by foreign public opinion more objectively and rationally. In the face of slander and misleading propaganda, we will take the initiative to defend her dignity.
