Jon_0w0
This is my Fuking country and I love it. I’m not proud or something but I love my India. Tho things are pretty fked up but still. “Jeena yaha marna yaha, uur ke bhi ham jaayenge kaha”

wrightsu
But I m sure the day u get some way out, u would take that way for sure without a second thought…

_Floydian
Exactly. This is like that Tinder girl who says, no hookups and is the first one to open up.

wrightsu
Lol

OrionIsCalling
Fun fact: I’m so proud of people manhandling people into standing up for the national anthem in a movie theatre. I’m also proud of people who attend religious ceremonies in the middle of a fricking pandemic

_Floydian
Fair.

Nobody care it’s all about karma these days. Can’t have a decent focused thread ….

Shakaahaari
You…
You make sense.

JazzlikeDE
India seems like a fucking joke to me. The more years I stay outside India, it seems nothing ever makes any sense in India and people are just living a lie. Meanwhile people who have the means to loot the nation and benefit from it are happy doing it

pxm7
I think the relentless focus on glorifying an imagined past is really, really hindering us from building a better future.
To combat this, India needs better-quality education right from the primary level. Not just rote memorisation but critical thinking. Also an honest conversation about its many social challenges. But that’s unlikely to happen in the short term.

Elegant-Road
Why is this comment being upvoted? Doesn’t answer the question that OP was asking.
It was a simple ask for some positivity and this comment is shitting all over it.
Edit – just fucking saw that the entire thread is full of comments like this.

laphtrahddis
seems like you are a bee j pee peean?

Lol

Nothing. Everything is smeared in wrongs and controversies and prejudice and hate

You went full hardcore bro.

Proud of being brainwashed into believing that India is a sovereign, secular, democratic republic.
Jai Hind

sabchangasi69
Akhand Bharat soon.

revolving_fart
Everything u said is correct except the brain drain thing.
In the Brian drain department Russia is first, as a percentage of total population and China is first as total numbers.

pierisramen
I agree with everything you said, but what does our fucked up education system got to do with brain drain? Aren’t people leaving in search of better opportunities?

BigLumpG
Good for you man.

I worked abroad for 5 years, never liked being away from my country apart from the initial euphoria of being in ‘phoren’. When I returned for good it was like something settled back into my soul and I was whole again. I can’t put a finger on what makes me proud of India, but I am. And I love it to bits. I would never think of leaving it now, no matter how bad the situation gets. There is only one mother and only one motherland. Sure it has its share of negatives, but then which nation doesn’t.

Thank you for this message. Amidst all the negativity, this feels like fresh air!

Tbh I’m really proud of our Constitution.
I know we are not perfect but that really comes down to Indians. As a breed we are hands down quite messed up.

Mundane-Philosopher3
In no small measure thanks to Ambedkar as he vociferously opposed many things that the Brahmin elites did/didn’t want to add in the constitution at that time, and still carry pretty much the same mindset. Nehru supported him quite a lot which shows our leaders of yesteryears were statesmen in the true meaning of the word.

I went through the India’s past. The times during british rule. Realized I am really lucky that I never got to see those times.
I read about so many countries. Realized I’m gonna find a shit hole almost everywhere.
I mean my parents can be so wrong about some stuff or their way of thinking about something. But that doesnt mean I’m gonna abandon them….

Once you get into the echelons of influence and have money you can get away with anything in this country

_Floydian
That trick is global but I understand your point.

Mundane-Philosopher3
On further thought, this is what I am proud of about India –
Introduced to the world the method of effective non-violent resistance, a concept that seems unthinkable and wholly illogical if one were to consider it rationally.
Until this govt came, this was the land of refuge for all ppl who had fled religious persecution throughout the world since ancient times. We never turned away anyone for being of a different culture or religion, but rather always absorbed them and made them a part of ourselves.
Yoga…. Yes I know it gets a bad rep these days but hear me out. First, take out Ramdev from ur mind. I’m not talking abt him. Just imagine a system of health & fitness that was developed thousands of years ago and which stretches the body, makes limbs supple & strong, exercises the inner organs too and also brings calm to mind. For the ancient age, yoga was way ahead of its time and super advanced. And even today, it provides a wonderful alternative to those who don’t want to bulk up but rather just want to stay decently fit. And if u think it doesn’t strengthen the body, just try to do a proper Mayurasana or Shirshasana and then lemme know. Add meditation also as part of yoga. Another fantastic thing to emerge from India.
Even after being plundered for over 200 years by the British, within 70 years of our independence we had become an emerging superpower in the world and were only set to go higher. Our economy gdp was 4th highest and our military strength was/is also 4th highest. That’s a mean feat considering our immense population and the fact that when the British left, we were dirt poor and totally illiterate.
Ancient university of Takshashila in 1000 BC. One of the earliest universities in the world that had 20,000 students from many countries. That’s something huh? Just shows that whatever the level of knowledge in the world at that time, India was considered a pretty popular learning destination, if not the cutting edge.
Ayurveda…..again, just like Yoga, during the ancient times when most other cultures thought that diseases happen due to black magic or the anger of gods, ayurveda was a great science that tried to find out the root causes of diseases and gave medicines to cure them. Now don’t start comparing it with modern medicine. They’re worlds apart. But for the ancient times, Ayurveda was definitely cutting edge. Even today if u go to an old-school Ayurveda doctor, he will simply hold ur pulse for a few seconds and find out many things about ur health just with that. How cool is that?
Annkshetras – Until as late as 1700s, we had food & rest houses along major highways in the country which would provide simple food and lodgings to travellers for free. For FREE!! Which other country can boast of such high levels of hospitality? At a time when long journeys were arduous, tiring, risky and mostly attempted on foot, these Dharmashalas and Annkshetras were the difference between completing a journey and dying on the way, especially for the poor folk. The British considered them to be a waste of revenue and shut them down when they took over.
We r even more diverse than Europe in terms of culture, language, religion, dress, food etc. and yet we are one nation. Not a small feat to hold together such disparate groups and instill a sense of common essence in them. No other country in the world has this characteristic.
So yeah, I’m really proud of my country. We need to acknowledge that at one time we were the leaders in the world in certain things, but not anymore. We need to stop hanging on to the past and look towards the future instead. But that doesn’t change the fact that we kicked some serious ass in ancient times.

Maybe I can add a point here-
I live in Canada and when people talk about history here, they go back to the 17th century. Coming from India, this feels so underwhelming when we have more than 2 millennia worth of content in our history. The literature, architecture, and culture have more depth than what the North American countries can think of. I feel the only reason why the western countries are better is due to the lower population density that offers the better usage of resources.
Imagine the USA and Canada (or even the European unx) with 100 crore people, I don’t think they would be able to maintain the order with liberal democracy.

Mundane-Philosopher3
They too wud have had a lot of ancient history if they hadn’t wiped out the indigenous ppl living there and instead assimilated them in the new country.

pshelpthedog
Can’t use “proud” since I didn’t contribute to it.
But I’m increasingly in awe of the lives and actions of all the activists of freedom movement. They managed to build a nation-wide, grassroots, positive-valued, social awakening movement in a far more conservative society under the gaze of a hostile authoritarian power without anywhere near the average education or communication capabilities we enjoy today.
The post-independence generations just don’t have the same spirit for some reason although theoretically one would assume it’s far more easier to start such movements today.

andolan-gv
The post-independence generations just don’t have the same spirit for some reason
It is far easier to mobilize people against something than for something. The freedom movement had an identified enemy: the British. Similarly the huge support that Hindutva forces have managed to muster is because they have an identified enemy: muslims, christians, pakistan etc.
It is way more harder to mobilize people for something, like say environment protection, health & sanitation, women’s safety etc.

Elegant-Road
I read somewhere that Gandhi was untrusted in the Muslim community because of him being half naked.
Just goes to show how Mahatma he had to be in order to rally up an entire nation of such diverse cultures.

Mundane-Philosopher3
And this is the same Gandhi who stopped Hindu-Muslim riots after partition simply by going on a fast unto death. Everyone laid down there weapons. I don’t remember which state this was in but it was a place where the riots were one of the worst

lionelmessipeters
I’m not proud of my country because of what it has become right now. I love my motherland , but not proud of what it has become over the last few years. We must fight the evil that has gripped the country.

gurugulab6969
I’m a proud Indian but I’m not proud of India.

yeahbitch_sg
When I was young like really young, I was proud of India’s unity in diversity. PS. I was an idiot back then.

Mundane-Philosopher3
India still has a lot of unity in diversity my friend. Didn’t u witness the last 2 months how ppl were helping each other across religious lines? Muslims donating firewood to Hindu crematorium, Muslims standing together with their Hindu friends who were conducting final rituals, churches providing free food to all poor in the area, Sikhs providing food (obviously) and also oxygen in their oxygen langars. I also remember the story of this Muslim guy who sold the jewellery of his wife and outfitted his auto rickshaw with basic ambulance equipment plus oxygen cylinder and was ferrying ppl to hospital for free.
There is a lot of good and a lot of bad in the country. U will find Hindus who wud rather die than take help from Muslims and u wud find Hindus who shelter Muslims during riots (happened in Delhi). The godi media focuses mainly on the negative cuz they’re trying to build a narrative. That’s y consuming alternate media (mostly online) is so important.
Plus this govt is Islamophobic so that’s why all this fear mongering is going on. I grew up in this country and believe me I rarely saw any Hindu Muslim clashes. Maybe a one off incident in a few years, but that’s it. I myself had good Muslim friends back in the day with whom I hung out a lot. We need to keep our sanity and not get brainwashed by this govt. This govt will go away sooner or later, the nation will always remain (hopefully)

Nothing tbh

I am pretty proud of our culture, our heritage, our cuisine, the fact we’ve had Hindu empires, Muslim empires, British empire, all ruke us and we’ve still thrived as people respecting and adopting each others practices (more or less, we’ve had issues, but overall we’ve done decent), creating a unique fusion. We have come quite far despite so many hurdles. But we’ve still got a long way to go, and get back into the drive gear from the reverse gear we’ve switched into for the past few years.
I’m still hopefully, because hope is all we’ve got for now

notmebud
So far nothing..
I am always told that Indian nationalism is equal to Hinduism and hating non Hindus. Since I am not a Hindu, I am not even supposed to be proud of myself. Lol

Mundane-Philosopher3
Only since this govt came to power. Before that there was not so much divide and hatred. Once this govt goes away, things will come back to normal, although it will take a long time and it will never be the normal of a decade ago.

Um_ironbanner12342
Indian nationalism is equal to Hinduism and hating non Hindus.
That’s the bs Hindu Nationalism. Don’t believe that.

naveenpun
One can’t be proud of something they have no contribution to. We are born here as a accident . It could be any nation.

No_Math_3137
Proud of having the best food in the world and the ability of Indians to silently endure a lifetime of pain and bullshit.

Elegant-Road
We are an IT behemoth. You can’t find a single company which doesn’t have Indians in it’s IT department.
Democracy. We are in such a good situation that we take democracy for granted. Almost every other country, not just in our neighborhood, has been a non-democracy(dictatorship, military) except us.
Fundamentals. We gave voting rights to everyone right from the beginning. Many countries didn’t allow women to vote and many had things like apartheid till very recently.
ISRO. The purity of it’s missions is something that moves me. We didn’t do it because we were trying to one-up someone. We weren’t doing it for pride. We did it for science. We did it so that it would help humanity (not just Indians).
ISRO。
