Depressed? Living there?

压抑？

I live in São Paulo, in a 65 m² apartment, in a nice neighborhood, in the west side of the town.

Millions of people here live in places like this:

Sorry, it isn’t an actual answer, but the question is really weird. I mean China is the most crowded country in the world, that maybe explains why they have crowded neighborhood. It is like asking why neighborhood in Sahara is so empty.

New Zealand and Australia have much smaller populations than UK considering their sizes.

Look buddy, I’m not an expert in the subject but I believe that a bird’s eye view makes houses and buildings appear smaller and clustered together. I believe any sane person would agree with me on this. It doesn’t mean they’re “crowded” and the people are definitely not “depressed”.

I think the short answer must be

‘Because they want to.’ which is not meant as a joke but is in deference to the fact that they are simply not as constrained by population density as is pretended.

Check the figures here: Population density (people per sq. km of land area)

China: 145 people per square kilometre.

Now here’s crowded: Hong Kong: 6897

Macao: 19,073

Monaco: 18,812

Singapore: 7,736

Ah – extraordinary, you say, not fair comparison.

Well here’s some more ‘normal’ countries: Germany 232

Well, That’s not a crowed style first of all. Let me give you an example of what the crowded style is see the images below of Mumbai (India).

Now why that style in China. I still think its a efficient way of space management. China is as all knows is the most populated country in the world thus to save the space you have to have a efficient home and residential structure. Now as you see every house in your pic is managed quite well and I guess this cant be done in a much better way.
