I think the major aspect of their similarities is due them being in the same region with similar economies in the same time frame.

Depends on the factors of comparison. Development and ability wise comparing the two don’t seem like a fair comparison. China is years ahead in terms of progress. Especially their ability to conceive huge projects and execute them.
India frankly does not come up anywhere near. One has to visit China once and see for themselves.
Both are trying to develop. But China’s progress can be summed up in one word – stupendous
